The camper dates for 2009 are Sunday July 19 to Saturday July 25.  Counselor training and activity staff meetings will take place on the evening of Friday July 17 and Saturday July 18.  All counseling and activity leaders should try to arrive on Friday night the 17th for check-in if you are able.

The remainder of the staff are expected to arrive for all staff training on the morning of Saturday July 18. They can arrive Friday night for check-in if desired.

Please be aware that there is limited staff housing and some of our non-counseling staff members will need to camp in tents or campers.  There are a number of hotels within 7 miles of camp for those who would want to pay for more comfortable accommodations.

Working (volunteering) on staff at Higher Ground Summer Camp is one of the hardest, yet most fulfilling tasks you will ever have.

Counselors are the ones who spend the most time with the campers and will bond with them in ways no other staff will. For that reason, we have very high standards for our counselors. Here are a few things we consider when selecting the counseling staff.

1. Do they exhibit enthusiasm for life and for Jesus Christ?

2. Are they committed Christians, attending a church or small group on a regular basis (at least twice a month)?

3. Are the fruits of the Holy Spirit evident in their lives?

4. Can they lead others with loving instruction and guidance?

5. Is Jesus Christ the Lord of their life?

6. Can they pray in a small group?

7. Do they seek out the lost?

If these traits describe you, we would love for you to apply to be a part of our counseling and other staff. We desire that our staff be 17 and older although sometimes exceptions are made in unique circumstances.

The pay is zilch but the rewards are tremendous. That is why so many of our staff come back year after year.

Additionally, all staff are required to be in support and agreement with our doctrinal belief statement.
